Transferring Shopify Products with 3 Options to Etsy

Find out how to transfer Shopify products with 3 options to Etsy.

Updated this week

When transferring products from Shopify to Etsy, it's important to remember that Etsy supports a maximum of two product options (variations). If your Shopify products have three options, they'll need adjustments to align with Etsy’s limitations.

To address this, Shuttle offers a convenient feature that merges two of your Shopify options into a single combined option, reducing the total number of options from three to two. This ensures a smooth and successful product transfer to Etsy without compatibility issues.

How Does Merging Look on Etsy?

When merging options, Shuttle combines the names and values of two options into a single, merged option using a separator. For example:

Shopify Product with 3 options:

  • Size: Small, Medium, Large

  • Color: Black, White, Blue

  • Material: Cotton, Polyester

Merged options on Etsy:

  • Option 1: Size (unchanged)

  • Option 2: Color & Material (merged)

    • Black & Cotton

    • Black & Polyester

    • White & Cotton

    • White & Polyester

    • Blue & Cotton, etc.

By default, Shuttle uses an ampersand (&) as the separator, but you can customize this separator in Shuttle's settings.

Choosing Which Options to Merge

You can control which options Shuttle merges by specifying which option you wish to exclude from merging. If you don't specify exclusions, Shuttle defaults to excluding the first option and merging options two and three, as configured in Shopify.

Important Note: Option merging only takes place within Shuttle—your original Shopify products remain unchanged.
