When transferring products between Etsy and Shopify, product titles often require adjustments for optimal presentation, SEO, and improved readability. Shuttle provides several powerful options to automate and customize how your product titles are handled during transfers and updates.
Here are the available settings and how to use them effectively:
1. Truncate Title from a Specific String
If your product titles include extra details that you prefer not to transfer, Shuttle allows you to truncate (remove) everything from the title starting at a specified string of text.
Example:
If your Etsy title is:
"Leather Belt for Men | Handmade | Made in Italy | Premium Quality"
And you set the truncation string to "|"
, Shuttle will transfer the title as:
"Leather Belt for Men"
This option helps keep titles concise and relevant for Shopify storefronts.
2. Automated Title Shortening (Segment Removal)
Etsy titles can often be lengthy, using separators like "|"
, "–"
, ","
, or "\"
to include multiple keyword segments. Shuttle can automatically shorten these titles by selecting how many segments you'd like to keep.
Example:
Original Etsy title:
"Red Dress | Summer Fashion | Vintage Style | Cotton"
If you choose "|"
as the separator and decide to keep only 2 segments, the Shopify title becomes:
"Red Dress | Summer Fashion"
You can also input multiple separators, separated by commas, to accommodate different styles across your listings.
Testing Your Title Adjustments
Shuttle includes a built-in feature to test how your titles will appear after applying your settings:
Simply enter a sample title in the provided field within the settings, and Shuttle will display the modified result in real-time, allowing you to verify and refine your adjustments.
3. Find & Replace Text in Titles
This feature enables fine-grained control over the transferred titles. You can specify certain text to replace or remove entirely during transfers.
Examples:
Replace: Find
"T-Shirt"
and replace it with"Tee"
.
"Men's Cotton T-Shirt"
→"Men's Cotton Tee"
Remove: Find
"Wholesale"
and leave the replace field blank to remove it.
"Vintage Vase Wholesale"
→"Vintage Vase"
Please note that this is case-sensitive—ensure exact matches to the original text.
4. Update Product Handle if Title is Modified
If you've enabled title modifications, Shuttle can automatically update the product handle (URL) to match the new title. This ensures consistency between your product title and URL.
Important: To avoid broken links, Shuttle automatically creates URL redirects behind the scenes whenever a product handle changes.
5. Add Product SKU to Handle
To further enhance your SEO or organizational needs, Shuttle allows adding the product's SKU directly into its handle (URL).
Example:
"leather-wallet"
→ "leather-wallet-lw123"
If multiple SKUs exist, Shuttle uses the first SKU from the product.
6. Shorten Product URLs (Handles)
For improved SEO, Shopify recommends product URLs (handles) be kept concise (around 50 characters). Shuttle offers the ability to automatically shorten your product handles to this recommended length during transfers or updates, helping maintain optimal SEO practices.
7. Assign Etsy Title to Shopify SEO Title
Automatically set your Shopify product's SEO title to match the original Etsy product title. This is particularly useful for maintaining keyword-rich titles from Etsy, enhancing your Shopify store's visibility in search engines.
