Etsy does not allow the update of more than 1,000 variants

This Shopify product has more than 1,000 variants. Etsy does not accept stock, price or SKU updates for that many variants, when the values are assigned on the variation level, so Shuttle stopped the update before it changed anything on Etsy.

Why it happens

The limit applies only when an update includes stock, prices or SKUs. An update includes them when:

  • SKU, Price or Quantity is ticked when you update the product. Quantity is ticked by default.

  • Select all fields is ticked. In a bulk update, this box is called Overwrite all fields.

  • Recreate Etsy inventory is ticked. In a bulk update, this box is called Recreate product inventory.

  • You used the Update on Etsy action in your Shopify product admin, and SKU, Price or Quantity is selected in your Admin Links settings.

  • You ran Update recently purchased. This option always updates stock.

Updates to other fields, such as title, description, images or tags, work with any number of variants.

How to fix it

To update one product:

  1. Go to Products and find the product.

  2. Click Update and choose Update in Etsy. On some product lists, the button already says Update in Etsy.

  3. Untick Select all fields, SKU, Price and Quantity. Leave Recreate Etsy inventory unticked.

  4. Pick the fields you want and click Update Etsy product.

For a bulk update:

  1. Go to Products, click Start a bulk update and choose Update in Etsy.

  2. Under Fields to update on duplicates, untick Overwrite all fields, SKU, Price and Quantity. Leave Recreate product inventory unticked.

Shuttle can update stock, prices or SKUs for this product only after it has 1,000 variants or fewer in Shopify.

Still seeing it?

Contact Shuttle support if you see this error on an update where SKU, Price, Quantity, the select-all box and the recreate inventory box were all unticked.
