Handling Negative Stock When Syncing Quantities from Etsy to Shopify

Updated over a month ago

When syncing stock levels from Etsy to Shopify, Shuttle provides flexible options for handling variations or products with negative stock levels in Shopify. This ensures you maintain accurate inventory data without unintentionally overwriting special stock management setups.

Available Options for Handling Negative Stock

You can configure Shuttle to:

  • Update Variations with Negative Stock Normally
Shuttle will update stock quantities for all variations, even if their Shopify stock is negative.

  • Ignore Variations with Negative Stock
Shuttle will skip updating variations where the current stock level on Shopify is negative, preserving your existing stock status.

  • Only Update When Restocking
Shuttle will update negative-stock variations only if the incoming Etsy stock quantity is positive—helpful when restocking but preventing negative or invalid stock adjustments.

Important Note:

Regardless of the setting you choose, Shuttle automatically ignores all products or variations where Shopify indicates that stock is not managed (for example, digital products or products without inventory tracking enabled).

This safeguard ensures that only managed, relevant inventory items are updated during synchronization.

How to Configure This Setting:

  1. Go to your Shuttle dashboard → Stock Syncer Settings.

  2. Find the section labeled "Ignore Negative Stock".

  3. Choose your preferred handling option from the dropdown menu.

  4. Save your changes.

By setting up how negative stock is handled, you maintain greater control over your inventory, prevent unintended stock updates, and keep both Etsy and Shopify inventory accurately aligned.
