Shuttle links each Etsy review it stores to a Shopify product, so the review can go to the right product page when you export it. This article covers how Shuttle finds that product and what to do when it can't.
How automatic review matching works
When Shuttle stores a review, it looks at the Etsy product the buyer reviewed. It then tries these steps in order.
1. Products already matched in Shuttle
The Etsy product may already be matched to a Shopify product in Shuttle, for example because Shuttle transferred it or because you matched it yourself. If so, the review is linked to that Shopify product.
2. Matching by SKU
If the Etsy product has no match yet and you have turned on matching by SKU, Shuttle looks for a Shopify product with the same SKU. It uses the SKU of the item the buyer bought. If that item has no SKU, it uses the product's other SKUs.
Example:
Etsy SKU: TShirt-Blue-M
Shopify SKU: TShirt-Blue-M
3. Matching by product title
If there is still no match and you have turned on matching by title, Shuttle looks for a Shopify product with the same title that is not yet matched to another Etsy product. It only makes the match when exactly one Shopify product fits. If several Shopify products share that title, the review stays unmatched.
Example:
Etsy product: Handmade Ceramic Mug
Shopify product: Handmade Ceramic Mug
Turn on SKU and title matching
Steps 2 and 3 only run when their settings are on. These are the same settings Shuttle uses to match your products, so they affect more than reviews. To turn them on:
In Shuttle, open Settings, then Products, then General.
In the Smart Matcher section, tick Match products and variations by SKU, Match products by title, or both.
Click Save.
Leave SKU matching off if either shop has duplicate SKUs. Leave title matching off if your product titles are not unique. For more on these settings, see Matching Products & Variations.
What if a review isn't matched?
If Shuttle can't find a Shopify product for a review, the review shows as Not assigned. You can match it yourself.
How to match reviews manually
Open Reviews in Shuttle.
On the Not assigned tile, click View unmatched.
Click Assign next to the review you want to match.
Search for the Shopify product and select it.
To give the same Shopify product to every review of this Etsy product, tick Yes, assign to all.
If the Shopify product isn't matched to an Etsy product yet, you can also tick Match to Etsy product. Shuttle then matches the two products everywhere in the app, not just for reviews, and future reviews of that Etsy product are linked to it automatically.
Click Assign to reviews.
Reuse your manual matches for future reviews
Shuttle can remember the products you assign by hand and use them again for new reviews.
In Shuttle, open Settings, then Reviews, then General.
In the Storing Reviews section, under Reuse manual assignments, tick Assign future reviews based on manual assignments.
Click Save.
With this on, a new review may come in for an Etsy product that has no Shopify match. Shuttle then checks whether you assigned a Shopify product to an earlier review of that same Etsy product, and if so, gives the new review that product too.
Reviews that are never stored
In the same Storing Reviews section, Only store reviews with matching Shopify products tells Shuttle to skip any review it can't match. Those reviews are not stored, so they won't show on the Reviews page to be matched. If you reuse manual assignments, reviews of an Etsy product you assigned before still count as matched. For more on these options, see Storing your Etsy Reviews.
