When your products move between Etsy and Shopify, you decide what happens to their tags. Shuttle can copy your existing tags, leave out the ones you don't want, and add extra tags of its own. Each direction has its own Tags settings, so Etsy to Shopify and Shopify to Etsy can follow different rules.
Where to find the tag settings
The tag settings for each direction are in the Tags section of Shuttle's product settings.
In Shuttle, open Settings.
Under Products, open Etsy → Shopify or Shopify → Etsy, depending on which way your products move.
Scroll to the Tags section.
Save your changes.
Etsy to Shopify: choose which tags your Shopify products get
The Tags settings under Etsy → Shopify control which tags a product gets when Shuttle brings it into Shopify.
Copy Etsy tags to Shopify
The Transfer Etsy tags setting decides whether a listing's Etsy tags come along to Shopify.
Turn on Transfer Etsy tags: Shuttle copies the listing's Etsy tags to the Shopify product.
Turn it off: Shuttle doesn't copy any Etsy tags. Your custom tags, and the Etsy section and product ID tags if you have chosen them, are still added.
Leave out specific Etsy tags
The Tags to exclude field lets you keep some Etsy tags out of Shopify. The field appears when Transfer Etsy tags is turned on.
In Tags to exclude, enter the tags you don't want in Shopify, separated by commas. Capital letters don't matter.
For example, if your Etsy tags are "Handmade, EtsySeller, Vintage" and you enter "EtsySeller", Shuttle transfers only "Handmade" and "Vintage".
Add your own tags to Shopify products
The Add custom tags field adds the same tags to every product Shuttle brings into Shopify. Enter the tags separated by commas.
Turn Etsy categories into Shopify tags
Shuttle can add a listing's Etsy category to the Shopify product as tags. Choose one option:
Don't assign categories as tags
Assign all product's categories as tags: adds every level of the listing's Etsy category.
Assign only the lowest category level: adds only the most specific category.
Add the Etsy section and product ID as tags
Two reference tags help you keep track of where a Shopify product came from on Etsy:
Add Etsy section to tags: adds the listing's Etsy section name as a tag. Listings that aren't in a section get no section tag.
Add Etsy product ID to tags: adds a tag such as "Etsy ID: 1234567890", so you can search for Shopify products by their Etsy ID.
Shopify to Etsy: choose which tags your Etsy listings get

The Transfer Shopify tags setting decides whether a product's Shopify tags come along to Etsy.
Turn on Transfer Shopify tags: Shuttle copies the product's Shopify tags to the Etsy listing.
Turn it off: Shuttle doesn't copy any Shopify tags. Your custom tags and metafield tags are still added.

The Exclude tags field lets you keep some Shopify tags off Etsy. The field appears when Transfer Shopify tags is turned on.
In Exclude tags, enter the tags you don't want on Etsy, separated by commas. Capital letters don't matter.
Add your own tags to Etsy listings
The Add custom tags field adds the same tags to every listing Shuttle sends to Etsy. Enter the tags separated by commas.
Custom tags for Etsy can also pull in details from each Shopify product through these placeholders:
[TYPE]: replaced by the product's type in Shopify.
[VENDOR]: replaced by the product's vendor.
[CATEGORY]: replaced by the product's category in Shopify.
For example, entering "[CATEGORY], Imported" adds one tag with the product's category and another tag that says "Imported".
Use tags stored in a Shopify metafield
If you keep Etsy tags in a Shopify metafield, Shuttle can add them to the listing during the transfer.
Under Tags from metafield, enter the metafield key in Shopify metafield key for tags, exactly as it appears in Shopify (for example, custom.etsy_tags).
In each product's metafield, separate the tags with commas.
The tags metafield must be a single line text, multi-line text or single line text (list) metafield.
The same metafield key can also be set under Settings > Products > General > Shopify metafields, in the Tags row. If you use that metafield when products move from Etsy to Shopify, Shuttle saves the listing's Etsy tags into it.
How Shuttle fits tags into Etsy's 13-tag limit
Etsy accepts up to 13 tags per listing, so Shuttle sorts the tags before it sends them. It puts your custom tags first, then your metafield tags, then the Shopify tags.
After sorting, Shuttle removes repeated tags (capital letters don't matter) and keeps the first 13.
Will Shuttle change my tags when it updates a product?
Shuttle changes a product's tags during an update only if Tags is one of the fields you choose to update. To make sure Shuttle never changes a product's tags, select Tags in the Master Switch.
