Updating products with Shuttle

Selectively update existing products between Etsy and Shopify, picking only the fields you want to keep in sync.

Shuttle gives you precise, flexible control over how your products are updated between Etsy and Shopify. Instead of overwriting everything, you choose exactly which fields to update, so the differences you intentionally keep between your sales channels stay intact.

Why selective updating matters

With Shuttle's selective updates, you can:

  • Update only what is necessary, such as titles or images, without altering descriptions, tags, or prices.

  • Preserve intentional differences between your Etsy and Shopify listings while keeping the rest in sync.

  • Run targeted updates quickly and efficiently, which saves meaningful time.

How updates work

Updating in Shuttle is very similar to transferring, with one important difference: updates apply only to products that already exist on both platforms. They refresh selected fields on matched products rather than creating new ones.

Important: Only matched products can be updated. If you have not set up product matching yet, refer to our guide on Matching Products & Variations before continuing.

Methods of updating products

1. Update a single product

Use this method when you only need to refresh one product at a time.

  1. From the Products page, locate the product you want to update.

  2. On the product's row, click Update in Shopify or Update in Etsy, depending on the direction.

  3. In the modal that appears, pick exactly which fields you want to overwrite.

  4. Click the action button at the bottom (for example, Update Shopify product) to start.

You can watch the update run live inside the modal. The final result (success, warning, or error) is shown when it completes.

2. Update products in bulk

Bulk updates run from the dedicated Transfer page.

  1. From the Products page, click Transfer or update products in the top-right corner.

  2. On the Transfer page, pick a direction: Etsy β†’ Shopify or Shopify β†’ Etsy.

  3. Under What do you want to do?, choose:

    • Only update existing products to refresh matched products without adding new ones.

    • Transfer & update products to do an update pass in the same run as a transfer of new products.

  4. Under Narrow down the products, pick a product status and, optionally, a section (Etsy) or collection (Shopify).

  5. Under Fields to update on duplicates, select the fields you want to overwrite.

  6. Review the summary and click the action button to start the run.

3. Update a queue of products

The queue lets you select specific products to update together, in either direction.

  1. From the Products page, click Add to queue on each row you want to include, and set the direction for that product.

  2. Click Transfer or update products to open the Transfer page.

  3. Select the Transfer queued products tile.

  4. Under Fields to update on duplicates, choose the fields you want to overwrite.

  5. Review the summary and start the run.

The Queue tab on the Products page shows only your queued items, so you can review and adjust the list before running it.

What you can update

Shuttle organizes update fields into groups to make them easier to scan. The exact fields available depend on the direction of the update, but typically include:

  • Core fields: Title, Description, Tags, Status, Categories, Translations.

  • Inventory & shipping: SKU, Price, Quantity, Shipping, Weight (Shopify), Dim & Weight (Etsy).

  • Media & metadata: Images, Video, Attributes (Etsy), Sections (Etsy), Collections (Shopify), Metafields (Shopify).

You can also select Overwrite all fields to update everything Shuttle supports in a single click.

Advanced options

For deeper updates, Shuttle also offers:

  • Recreate product inventory: rebuild variants and inventory on the destination from the source. Useful when the variant structure has changed.

  • Overwrite existing SKUs: regenerate SKUs using your SKU generator, even when the destination already has one. Only available when SKU generation is enabled in your settings.
