Preventing Unintended Updates with the Master Switch

Use the Master Switch to control what's updated and avoid accidental changes.

The Master Switch lets you lock parts of your products, such as the title, description or tags, so that Shuttle never changes them when you update products. This helps when you keep some details different on Etsy and Shopify and don't want an update to overwrite them by accident.

For example, your Etsy and Shopify product titles might be different. If you update a product from Etsy to Shopify and leave the Title option selected, Shuttle replaces your Shopify title with the Etsy one. If you protect Title in the Etsy → Shopify Master Switch, your Shopify title stays as it is.

Once you protect a part, Shuttle skips it in every update in that direction. The part also no longer appears in the list of fields you can pick when you update products on the Products page.

Which parts of a product can the Master Switch protect?

Shuttle has one Master Switch for each direction, so your Shopify products and your Etsy listings each have their own. Protecting a part in one direction only keeps that part from being overwritten on the receiving side.

Set up the Master Switch

  1. In Shuttle, go to Settings.

  2. Under Products, open Etsy → Shopify to protect your Shopify products, or Shopify → Etsy to protect your Etsy listings.

  3. Find the Master Switch section.

  4. Select each part that Shuttle should never update. A note under the options lists what Shuttle will leave alone.

  5. Click Save.

To allow updates to a part again, deselect it in the Master Switch section and save.

Which updates does the Master Switch cover?

The Master Switch covers every update Shuttle makes to a product that already exists on both platforms. That includes updates you start on the Products page and updates you start from Shopify with admin links.

Does the Master Switch affect new transfers or stock syncing?

The Master Switch does not affect new product transfers or real-time stock syncing:

  • New product transfers: when Shuttle creates a new product, it copies everything as usual.

  • Real-time stock syncing: stock levels keep syncing, even if you protect Quantity.
