SKU Audit: Detect Duplicates, Orphans, and Mismatches

Get a bird's-eye view of every SKU across your Etsy and Shopify stores to instantly spot and fix inventory inconsistencies before they cause oversells.

Updated this week

The SKU Audit page gives you a bird's-eye view of every SKU across your Etsy and Shopify stores, making it easy to spot and fix inventory inconsistencies before they cause oversells or missed sales.

Plan requirement: SKU Audit is available on the Growth plan and above. If you're on a lower plan, you'll see an option to upgrade when you visit the page.

Why Use SKU Audit?

When you sell on both Etsy and Shopify, keeping SKU data and stock levels in sync can be challenging. Over time, small discrepancies creep in, a SKU might exist on one platform but not the other, quantities might drift apart, or the same SKU could accidentally appear on multiple products.

SKU Audit helps you:

  • Catch quantity mismatches: See at a glance where Etsy and Shopify stock levels disagree, so you can correct them before an oversell happens.

  • Find orphaned SKUs: Identify SKUs that exist on only one platform, which may indicate incomplete product setup or a listing that was deleted on one side.

  • Spot duplicate SKUs: Detect when the same SKU is used across multiple products on the same platform, which can cause confusion and sync errors.

  • Unify stock in one go: Enter a new quantity and sync it to both Etsy and Shopify at once, without visiting each platform separately.

Understanding the Dashboard

When you open the SKU Audit page, you'll see summary cards at the top:

Card

What It Means

Total Unique SKUs

The total number of distinct SKUs found across both platforms.

Duplicate SKUs

SKUs that appear on more than one product within the same platform.

Mismatched SKUs

SKUs where the stock quantity differs between Etsy and Shopify.

Orphaned SKUs

SKUs that exist on one platform but are missing from the other.

Below the summary cards, a table lists every SKU with detailed information.

Reading the SKU Table

Each row in the table shows:

  • SKU: The SKU identifier. You can click to copy it.

  • Linked Products: How many products and variations use this SKU, split by Etsy and Shopify.

  • Current Stock: The quantity on each platform. If your Shopify store has multiple locations, you'll see both the synced location quantity and the combined quantity across all locations.

You can expand any row to see the individual product variations that share that SKU, including product titles, variation names, platform indicators, and per-variation quantities.

Filtering and Searching

Use the controls above the table to narrow down your view:

  • Search: Type a SKU value to find it quickly.

  • Duplicates Only: Show only SKUs that appear on multiple products within the same platform.

  • Mismatched Qty Only: Show only SKUs where Etsy and Shopify quantities don't match.

  • Orphaned Only: Show only SKUs that exist on just one platform.

  • Status filters: Filter by product status: Active, Sold out, or Inactive.

These filters combine with each other, so you can, for example, show only active products with mismatched quantities.

Syncing a SKU's Quantity

When you find a mismatch you want to fix:

  1. Enter the correct quantity in the New Qty field next to the SKU.

  2. Click the Sync button.

  3. A confirmation dialog will appear showing the quantity that will be applied to all variations sharing that SKU on both platforms.

  4. Confirm, and the sync will run in the background.

You can click 'Sync' on up to 5 different rows in rapid succession. The syncs will run in the background simultaneously. For performance reasons, we recommend waiting for these to finish before syncing more.

Tips for Getting the Most Out of SKU Audit

  • Start with mismatches: These are the most likely to cause oversells. Filter to "Mismatched Qty Only" and work through them first.

  • Investigate orphans: An orphaned SKU might mean a product wasn't linked properly between platforms. Check if the product exists on both sides and re-link if needed.

  • Resolve duplicates: Having the same SKU on multiple products can confuse inventory sync. Consider updating one of the products to use a unique SKU.

  • Check regularly: Make it a habit to review the SKU Audit page periodically, especially after creating new listings or running sales events.

Frequently Asked Questions

Q: Which plan do I need?
SKU Audit is available on the Growth, Scale, and Unlimited plans. If you're on a lower plan, visit the subscription page to upgrade.

Yes. When you sync a quantity, it updates the stock level on both platforms for every variation that uses that SKU.

The page shows both the quantity at your synced location and the combined total across all locations. Syncs are applied to your synced location.

Summary statistics are cached briefly (about 60 seconds) for performance. The mismatch count is always calculated live. You can refresh the page to see the latest data.

Q: Can I sync multiple SKUs at once?
You can have up to 5 syncs running at the same time. Each SKU must be synced individually so you can set the correct quantity for each one.
