SKU Audit: Detect Duplicates, Single-Store SKUs, and Mismatches

Get a bird's-eye view of every SKU across your Etsy and Shopify stores to instantly spot and fix inventory inconsistencies before they cause oversells.

The SKU Audit page lists every SKU across your Etsy and Shopify stores in one place. You can use it to find and fix inventory differences before they cause oversells or missed sales.

To open it, go to Inventory in Shuttle's menu and click Open SKU audit.

What SKU Audit helps you find

SKU data and stock levels drift apart over time when you sell on both Etsy and Shopify. A SKU might exist on one platform but not the other, quantities might stop matching, or the same SKU might end up on more than one product.

SKU Audit helps you:

  • Catch quantity differences between Etsy and Shopify, so you can correct them before an oversell happens.

  • Find single-store SKUs, which exist on only one platform. They can mean a product setup is incomplete or a listing was deleted on one side.

  • Spot duplicate SKUs, where the same SKU is used on more than one product on the same platform. These can cause confusion and sync errors.

  • Spot SKU differences, where a matched variation has one SKU on Etsy and a different one on Shopify.

  • Enter a new quantity for a SKU and sync it to both Etsy and Shopify at once, without going to each platform separately.

What SKU Audit needs before you start

SKU Audit needs two things:

  • Your Etsy shop must be connected to Shuttle.

  • SKU matching must be turned on.

If SKU matching is off, the SKU Audit page shows "SKU Matching is currently disabled". To turn it on, click Open settings, tick Match products and variations by SKU under Match by SKU, and save. Read about matching before you turn it on, especially if your shops contain duplicate SKUs.

What the SKU Audit summary numbers mean

Four summary numbers sit at the top of the SKU Audit page:

  • Total Unique SKUs: the number of distinct SKUs found across both platforms.

  • Duplicate SKUs: SKUs used on more than one product within the same platform.

  • Qty Differences: SKUs whose stock quantities don't all agree. Inactive Etsy listings are left out, and SKUs that are out of stock on both sides are not counted.

  • Single Store SKUs: SKUs that exist on one platform but not the other. The badge shows how many are on Shopify only and how many are on Etsy only.

Click any of these numbers to filter the SKU table to just those SKUs.

How often the SKU Audit summary refreshes

The SKU Audit summary is prepared in the background, and the line under it shows when it was last updated. While it is being prepared, you'll see "SKU summary is being computed". The SKU table is not affected and always shows your current data.

How often the summary refreshes depends on your plan:

  • Growth, Scale and Max: up to every 15 minutes. Very large catalogs refresh less often.

  • Essential and the free trial: once a day.

  • Free plan: the summary isn't shown, but you can still use the SKU table and sync quantities.

A refresh starts when you open the page and the summary is older than that. For very large catalogs, numbers marked ~ are estimates.

Read the SKU table

Each row of the SKU table shows:

  • SKU: the SKU itself. Click it to copy it.

  • Linked Products: how many products and variations use this SKU, split by Etsy and Shopify.

  • Qty: the quantity on Etsy and on Shopify. When the variations behind a SKU have different quantities, you'll see a range, for example "2 to 5".

If your Shopify store has more than one location, Shopify gets two columns in the SKU table. Qty shows your selected location and Com shows the total across all locations.

To see the variations behind a SKU, click the arrow next to it to expand the row. Each variation that uses that SKU is listed with its product title, variation name, status, the platforms it is on, and its quantities.

Filter and search the SKU table

The controls above the SKU table narrow down what you see:

  • Search: type all or part of a SKU and click Search, or press Enter.

  • All SKUs: clears the filters and shows every SKU.

  • Duplicates: only SKUs used on more than one product on the same platform.

  • Qty Diff: only SKUs whose quantities don't match.

  • SKU Diff: only matched variations whose Etsy SKU and Shopify SKU are different. Each side shows as its own row, and expanding a row shows the SKU used on the other platform.

  • Shopify Only and Etsy Only: only SKUs that exist on just that platform.

  • Active, Sold out and Inactive: filter by product status.

  • Reset: clears all filters and your search.

The SKU table filters combine with each other, so you can, for example, show only active products with quantity differences.

Sync a SKU's quantity to Etsy and Shopify

Syncing a quantity from the SKU Audit page sets one number for a SKU on both Etsy and Shopify. To fix a difference:

  1. Enter the correct quantity in the New Qty field next to the SKU. You can enter any number from 0 to 999.

  2. Click Sync, or press Enter.

  3. Check the confirmation, which shows the quantity that will be applied across both Etsy and Shopify. All variations that share this SKU will be updated.

  4. Click Confirm sync. The sync runs in the background, and you'll see a message when it's done. The SKU table then refreshes with the new quantities.

You can have up to 5 SKU syncs running at the same time. While 5 are running, the Sync buttons stay disabled until one finishes.

You can start up to 10 SKU syncs per minute. If you go over that, you'll see "Failed to start sync — please try again". Wait a moment and try again.

Where to start fixing SKU issues

A few habits help you work through what SKU Audit finds:

  • Start with quantity differences, because they are the most likely to cause oversells. Click Qty Diff and work through them first.

  • Look into single-store SKUs. A SKU on only one platform might mean a product wasn't matched between your shops, so check whether the product exists on both sides and match it if needed.

  • Fix SKU differences by updating one side of the matched variation, so both platforms use the same SKU.

  • Resolve duplicates by giving one of the products a unique SKU, because the same SKU on more than one product can confuse inventory sync.

  • Check the SKU Audit page from time to time, especially after creating new listings or running sales events.

Questions about SKU Audit

Does syncing a SKU update both Etsy and Shopify?

Yes. When you sync a quantity on the SKU Audit page, Shuttle updates every Shopify variant and every Etsy listing in your connected Etsy shop that uses that SKU.

How does a SKU sync work with multiple Shopify locations?

The SKU table shows both the quantity at your selected location and the total across all locations. Which Shopify number a sync changes depends on your Quantity source for Etsy updates setting:

  • Use the selected location only: your selected location is set to the new quantity.

  • Use combined quantity across all locations: Shuttle adjusts your selected location so the total across all locations equals the new quantity.

A variant that isn't stocked at your selected location is handled differently. With Use the selected location only, Shuttle updates the one location where the variant is stocked, or the one with the most stock if it is stocked at several other locations. With Use combined quantity across all locations, a variant like that is skipped.

How often is SKU Audit data refreshed?

The SKU table shows your current data every time you load it or change a filter. The summary at the top refreshes in the background: up to every 15 minutes on Growth, Scale and Max (less often for very large catalogs), and once a day on Essential and the free trial.

Can I sync several SKUs at once?

You can have up to 5 SKU syncs running at the same time. Each SKU is synced on its own, so you can set the right quantity for each one. To update many quantities at once, use a bulk update instead.
