Understanding your Base Scores

Updated this week

A Base Score is a 0-to-100 rating of how well your product listing is set up for AI-powered product discovery. It's calculated instantly from your existing product data. No AI processing needed and no credits used.

Each platform gets its own score. If a product exists on both Shopify and Etsy, you'll see separate scores for each because the listing data can differ between platforms.

What's being evaluated

Your Base Score is built from three areas:

Identity & Comprehension - Is your listing complete and easy for AI to understand? This evaluates your title (length, formatting, keyword use), description (length, detail, structure), category and taxonomy depth, and tags (count, diversity, relevance).

Structured Attributes - Does your listing have rich, detailed product data? This covers image count and quality (5+ images score highest, resolution and aspect ratio matter), alt text on images, variant structure and pricing, materials, metafields, and SKU coverage.

Trust & Readiness - Is your product trustworthy and ready to be recommended? This includes reviews (count and average rating), inventory levels, product status and visibility, SEO metadata, GTIN/barcode coverage, and vendor/brand information. Some elements in this area (like SEO metadata, GTIN, and vendor) apply only to Shopify. Etsy listings are not penalized for these.

Products without reviews are not penalized, the review points are excluded from your maximum possible score, so your score is calculated fairly out of the remaining elements.

Score tiers

Your score falls into one of four tiers:

  • Great - Your listing is well-optimized for AI discovery

  • Good - Solid foundation with room for improvement

  • Okay - Some gaps that could cause AI assistants to skip your product

  • Low - Significant improvements needed

Quick Wins and Recommendations

After your products are scored, you'll see actionable recommendations alongside each score. These are specific, practical tips you can act on right away β€” things like:

  • Adding more product images

  • Improving your description length or structure

  • Filling in missing tags or categories

  • Updating your title formatting

These recommendations are prioritized by impact, so you know which changes will make the biggest difference. Best of all, acting on these tips is completely free and doesn't require running an Analysis.

Why scores differ between Shopify and Etsy

Since each platform is scored independently based on that platform's listing data, the same product can have different scores on Shopify and Etsy. For example, if your Etsy listing has a longer description or more tags than your Shopify listing, the Etsy score may be higher.
